COA Reader: Interpret Any Hemp Certificate of Analysis

Free tool. A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is the only document that tells you what is actually in a hemp product. Enter the cannabinoid values from any COA below and this tool will interpret them — federal compliance, potency, and whether the product is single-cannabinoid or a blend. For adults 21+.

General information, not legal advice. State law may be stricter than federal law. Always confirm the COA batch number matches your product and that the lab is ISO/IEC 17025 accredited. Adults 21+ only.

What Every COA Should Contain

  • Lab name and accreditation — look for ISO/IEC 17025. An unaccredited lab result carries little weight.
  • Batch or lot number — it must match the number printed on your product. A COA for a different batch tells you nothing.
  • Test date — older reports may not reflect the product in your hand.
  • Cannabinoid profile — the table you just entered above.
  • Contaminant panels — pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, microbials, mycotoxins. Each should show a pass result.

Red Flags

  • No COA available at all, or only a photo of a partial page.
  • Batch number missing, or not matching the product label.
  • No lab name, or a lab that cannot be found online.
  • Cannabinoid totals that do not add up, or values reported without units.
  • Only a potency panel with no contaminant testing.
